Lightning strikes: Three dead, 5 hurt in Odisha


Khurda/ Mayurbhanj: At least three persons died while five others suffered injuries in separate lightning strikes in Khurda and Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.

According to available information, a person died and one sustained injuries after lightning struck them at Sarua village in the district. Similarly, one person was killed and two were injured after being struck with a thunderbolt at Kunjuri village in Khurda.

The deceased has been identified as Paramananda Mahabhoi of Sarua village and Sanjay Nayak of Kunjuri village.

The injured victims Dinesh Nayak and Babita Nayak hailed from Kunjuri village whereas Ramesh Sethi was from Pubusahi. The injured were rushed to Khurda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

Similarly, lightning claimed the life of a woman and injured two others at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district today evening.

The deceased, Hira Murmu of Bijatala village was working in the paddy fields along with two others when the lightning struck them. While Hira died on the spot, the injured were rushed to the hospital.
