Bhubaneswar: BJP leaders Bhrugu Baxipatra and Golak Mohapatra today moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with BJD leader Laxmidutta Pradhan’s murder case.
The Chhatrapur police had on January 29 summoned the two BJP leaders–Mohapatra and Baxipatra–to appear before it on February 7 and February 9, respectively.
However, Mohapatra failed to appear before police yesterday, citing health-related problems. Mohapatra, through his lawyer, sought an additional time of one month for appearance.
So far 19 persons have been arrested and charge sheet filed in the case. However, few other suspects are still at large, sources in the police informed.
Notably, on September 16, 2017, a group of men dragged Laxmidutta Pradhan (35), councillor of ward no. 6, out of his house at Surya Nagar in Chhatrapur and attacked him with sharp weapons. Pradhan was taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Mohapatra was grilled by Chhatrapur Police on November 2 where he was quizzed about his alleged links with key conspirators of the case, Krushna Nayak and Duryodhan Reddy, and his alleged conversations with them over the phone.
The slain councillor was an accused in the murder case of Sakuru Behera, a CPI supporter, at Chhatrapur on July 23, 2014.
