Cuttack: The agitating lawyers of the Orissa High Court on Friday decided to continue their cease-work strike till November 9.
A High Court hearing on the alleged assault of a lawyer by police personnel is scheduled to be held on November 9 following which the association will decide its future course of action.
Meanwhile, the Orissa High Court Bar Association has dismissed three lawyers for allegedly sabotaging the cease-work agitation. The lawyers who have been dismissed are BJD legal front convener Milan Kanungo, advisor Asim Amitabh & former HC bar vice president Banshidhar Satpathy.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice KS Jhaveri, directed the investigating officer of the lawyers-police conflict to complete the probe by November 9.
The direction of the Chief Justice came after the investigating officer in the case reportedly went on leave for five days on the ground of illness.
Notably, the Bar Association had called for the cease-work stir on August 30 protesting ‘police excesses’ on an advocate at Nua Bazaar bridge on August 28 morning in Cuttack. They demanded the arrest of the cops who were involved in the incident.
Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh had earlier suspended two constables—BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and a Havildar PK Behera—in connection with the incident.
