Chhatrapur: Doctor Archana Das had sought the help of a women’s association to convince her husband and in-laws a few days before killing herself by jumping before a moving train.
The women’s association, Pramila Devi Mahila Kalyan Sangh of Berhampur, is currently investigating into the death of the female doctor and met her parents at Chhatrapur on Sunday.
Association president Pramila Tripathy said Archana met her on August 16 and requested her to convince her husband and in-laws.
“Archana had been in mental stress since her husband served her divorce notice. Due to social stigma and mental stress, she killed herself,” Tripathy said.
Tripathy held Archana’s husband Dr Anjan Kumar Das and her in-laws responsible for her death and demanded stringent punishment for them.
On the other hand, Archana’s husband dismissed the allegations of torture. “She was suffering from diabetes and other diseases and committed suicide due to mental stress,” Das said.
Notably, the 31-year-old doctor committed suicide by jumping before a train at the Chhatrapur railway level crossing on Friday. She was working as a medical officer at Sindurpur primary health centre.
