Koraput: Congress MLA from Koraput, Krushna Chandra Sagaria, on Monday stepped down from the post of general secretary of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).
The development came hours after the Pradesh Election Committee finalised 44 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections.
Putting to rest the speculations regarding his exit from the party, the legislator said that he would continue to remain in the party and contest the elections.
Sagaria reportedly resigned from the general secretary post after his ouster from the post of chairman of the SC cell of OPCC. He alleged that several people of the party conspired against him to remove him from the chairman’s post.
Speaking at a press conference here, the Koraput MLA said, “I will remain in the party. If I get the party ticket I will contest the polls. If I do not get, I will still cooperate with the party candidates.”
Recently, Sagaria was removed from the post of chairman of the SC cell and made the general secretary. However, he was reportedly unhappy with the party activities for the past couple of days.
In June this year, Sagaria had threatened to quit the party after accusing senior party leader and MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati of making casteist remarks against him.
