Koraput: Police on Friday arrested the site manager of DD Builders, Bijay Kumar Jha, in connection with deaths of two JCB operators in Bariput stone quarry mishap in Koraput district last month.
On the basis of the complaint of deceased JCB operator Ghanashyam Guru’s father, the police launched a further probe into the matter.
According to sources, Jha on behalf of DD Builders had applied to Jeypore tehsildar for mining of stone from Bariput quarry three months back.
“Action will be taken against the concerned administrative officer after further inquiry,” said the investigating officer and SDPO Harekrushna Majhi.
Notably, two JCB operators— Ghanashyam Guru of Deogarh district and Sanjay Dash of Athagarh in Cuttack— were busy excavating boulders at the stone quarry when the quarry caved in on May 31 trapping the duo under the boulders.
While the body of Sanjay was recovered from the stone quarry on Thursday, the body of Ghanshyam was recovered on June 10.
Meanwhile, an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund along with an additional financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh from Red Cross.
