Bhubaneswar: The fake police who had been detained by the Khandagiri police was arrested on Thursday. The accused was identified as Priyaranjan Baral, a resident of Vivekananda Marg in the city. Two red beacon vehicles, one toy pistol, a handcuff and a Very high frequency (VHF) radio were recovered from his possession by the police.
A case had been registered against Baral and he was forwarded to court. As his bail petition was rejected he was sent to Jharpada Special Jail. His associate Bijay Nanda Lakra of Mansingh Bazar in Balasore district has been detained by the police for interrogation.
It may be mentioned that while the Commissionerate Police, on Wednesday night, had organised a check post for searching vehicles, at the Khandagiri Square, a Sumo with red beacon had arrived at the spot at around 9.30 pm, from Baramunda side. Khandagiri police gave the vehicle a safe passage due to the red beacon.
But Khandagiri police station inspector Sarat Kumar Sahu identified Baral in the vehicle, who had earlier been arrested in a fraud case. Smelling something fishy, Sahu immediately informed the Tamando police and chased the Sumo with a team of Khandagiri police station. At last the vehicle was spotted at Aiginia chowk.
Five more persons were present in the vehicle along with Baral. He tried to escape from the police clutches by identifying himself as an intelligence officer of the police department. But as during interrogation his true identity as a fraud was proved he was taken into police custody.
Later the police came to know that among the persons accompanying him, he had called four in lure of providing jobs in the police department and the another Bijay was his associate.
