Mumbai: Karan Johar’s period drama, Kalank, which emerged as one of the biggest openers of 2019, has witnessed a drop of 50 per cent in the collections on Day 2.
The multi-starrer movie, however, has crossed the Rs 30-crore mark within two days of its release.
While Mahavir Jayanti holiday worked in favour of Kalank on its release day, the numbers did not grow on the second day.
The movie had the biggest opening of the current year with a box office collection of Rs. 21.60 crores and surpassed the first-day collection of Kesari and Gully Boy. Kalank minted a box office collection of Rs. 10.50 crore with a drop of 50% on its second day.
Meanwhile, the mixed reviews from critics and slow pace of the film stood out to be drawbacks for the film’s growth. However, the box office collection of the movie on the first day was better than its critic’s reviews.
Kalank is a period drama set in pre-independent India that takes you back in time with intricately interwoven stories of six characters who are connected by love and revenge. The drama stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Madhuri Dixit.
