Justice Das begins probe into missing keys of Jagannath Temple Ratna Bhandar
Cuttack: Justice Raghubir Das Commission began its inquiry into the missing Ratna Bhandar keys of Puri Jagannath Temple at the Circuit House here on Wednesday with Justice Das taking charge as the Chairman of the commission of inquiry.
The Commission, in a notification, has invited people to submit their statement supported by affidavits on this issue by July 25, Justice Das said after assuming charge adding the first meeting of the commission will be held at Circuit House, Puri on July 30.
“People can submit these in person either in Cuttack or Puri. Besides, they can also send these by post either to Cuttack or Puri,” he added.
The state government on June 6 had appointed Justice Raghubir Das, former judge of the Orissa High Court, as chairman of the commission of inquiry to probe into the missing keys of Ratna Bhandara of the Jagannath temple.
Later, the Odisha Government had issued a notification regarding Terms of Reference (ToR) for enquiry into the missing keys of the Inner Chamber of the “Ratna Bhandar” of Shree Jagannath Temple.
The notification read that this being a matter of public importance should be enquired into by a Commission of Enquiry under the Commissions of Enquiry Act, 1952.
Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 read with subsection (1) of Section 5 of the said Act, the State Government has appointed a Commission of Enquiry consisting of Justice Raghubir Dash, a retired Judge of Orissa High Court, to enquire into and report in respect of the following matters, within three months from the date of publication of this Notification dated 8.6.2018 in the Odisha Gazette, the notification read.
As per the notification, the commission will enquire into (i) the sequence of events and circumstances leading to the reported non-availability of the key (s) of the Inner Chamber of the “Ratna Bhandar” of Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri.
(ii) The role, conduct and accountability of individuals/groups/authorities for the reported non-availability of the key(s).
(iii) Any other matter connected with or incidental thereto as the Commission may consider appropriate including measures to be taken to avoid recurrence of such event in future.
The Headquarters of the Commission shall be at Bhubaneswar. However, the Commission may hold the enquiry at Puri or any other place as may be considered necessary for the purpose.
