Jewellery shop owner killed in Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal: Unidentified miscreants brutally murdered a jewellery shop owner by slitting his throat in his house at Patnaik Sahi near Meena Bazaar in Dhenkanal district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Mantu Patra (40). He originally hailed from Medinipore in West Bengal and was living in a rented house at Meena Bazaar area with his wife and two children for the past couple of years. The deceased owned a jewellery shop named ‘Jagannath Jewellery’ located on the Gandhi temple road.
The incident took place at around 2pm when some unknown men entered Patra’s house while his wife and children were at the backyard of the house. The assailants then slit Patra’s throat and fled the spot.
The deceased’s wife, Aruna Patra told the police that she heard some noises first and then sent her 10-year-old son to find out. But when the little boy started screaming she rushed inside the house and found her husband lying in a pool of blood.
On being informed, Town Police reached the spot and shifted Mantu to Dhenkanal District headquarters Hospital assuming him to be alive. But doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
It is suspected that Mantu was attacked with a sharp weapon. Besides, several injury marks was also find on the deceased’s body.
Later, Dhenkanal SP Santosh Nayak, Town police IIC Abhinab Dalua along with a scientific team and dog squad reached the crime scene and launched a probe.
Though the exact cause behind the attack is still unknown, police is suspecting two workers from Kolkata who worked in the shop. Besides, the deceased’s wife is also another suspect in the murder case, sources in the police said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem while investigations are on to unravel the mystery behind the murder, said Dhenkanal SP Santosh Nayak, adding the autopsy report is awaited to initiate further action.
