Jawans carry pregnant woman in labour 7 km braving landmines


Malkangiri: Setting yet another example of bravery and compassion, Jawans of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) carried a pregnant woman 7 km on shoulder braving the Maoists.

The incident took place in Kondagoan district in neighbouring Chhattisgarh state.

On Friday morning, while a troop of 41 Battalion ITBP was conducting combing operation in the forests on Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, received the information of labour pain of a pregnant tribal woman, identified as Rukmani Baghel.

The jawans ceased the combing operation and rushed to help the woman.  They carried the woman 7 km on a handmade stretcher to the ITBP camp braving landmines planted by Maoists, where she delivered a baby, following treatment by the doctor on duty in the camp.
