IPL betting racket busted in Paralakhemundi, seven held


Gajapati: Paralakhemundi Police claimed to have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket with the arrest of seven persons on Tuesday.

The arrested have been identified as Madhupa Ranjan Pattnaik (44), Gurrana Santosh (34), Abutala Lokesh (21), Kurumupu Kamesh (26), Tandasa Rambabu (32), Ashis Purkait (36) and Tunu Gouda (42).

Acting on reliable inputs about the betting of the ongoing IPL match, a six-member team led by inspector-in-charge Bibekananda Swain raided a garage near Treasury Office in Paralakhemundi and apprehended the accused persons.

Around Rs.61,000, in cash, and eight mobile phones have been seized from their possession, SDPO Thakur Prasad Patra informed.

A case has been registered against the arrested person under relevant Sections of the IPC and forwarded to court, the police said.
