New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted interim relief from arrest to former finance minister P Chidambaram relating to ED probe.
He was granted interim protection from arrest till August 26.
The apex court came down heavily on Chidambaram’s lawyers and said that he must cooperate with the investigating agencies. Chidambaram is currently in CBI custody for probe in the INX Media case.
Kapil Sibal, while arguing for Chidambaram in Supreme Court, said that his client’s ‘fundamental right to access to justice has been frustrated by the way in which the plea against Delhi HC verdict was not heard despite moving the SC on time’.
In his arguments, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that Chidambaram was ‘evasive’ and ‘non-compliant’ during the CBI investigation.
