Inter-state looter gang busted, 2 held
Cuttack: Malgodown police have busted an inter-state looter gang with the arrest of two persons from Singhuruali district of Madhya Pradesh.
The accused identified as Javed Ali and Sadik Ali were arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by one Annapurna Parida of Cuttack.
According to police, Parida was on her morning walk on May 13 when three bike-borne miscreants waylaid her near Jobra Durga Chhak at around 8.30 am. Identifying themselves as policemen, they advised her not to wear gold as fear of snatching and advised her to keep the ornaments in a folded paper as given by them for safety and security.
Then the old woman gave her both the gold bangles and Ring to the accused persons who kept in a paper and after folding they handed over to another folding paper in which the accused persons cunningly had kept broken glasses earlier.
On return to her house, she opened the folded paper and found to have been cheated by those three persons with her gold articles were taken by them.
During the investigation, an organised inter-state gang of Madhya Pradesh was detected by a special team under the direction of DCP, Cuttack.
Based on the CCTV footage and other technical aspects, the duo was arrested from Singhuruali district of Madhya Pradesh.
They were brought to Cuttack today by the Special Police Team of Commissionerate Police, Cuttack and to be remanded in more than 15 cases all over the state committed by them mostly in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Khurda District.
The accused were found to be involved in similar offences at Cantonment, Markatnagar, Lalbag and CPA Phase-II Police Stations of Cuttack and Infocity, Kharvelnagar and Nayapalli Police Stations of Bhubaneswar who will be accordingly remanded in their respective cases.
Meanwhile, a team has been formed to apprehend the other accused persons and the receiver of stolen gold ornaments at the earliest.
