Indian women team win ODI series by 2-1 lead

Hamilton: Indian women’s cricket team lost their third ODI by 8 wickets in Hamilton on Friday ending the series with a 2-1 lead.

With this Mithali Raj became the first from the country to win an ODI bilateral series in New Zealand.

Smriti Mandhana, played a crucial role in the first two wins scoring 105 and 90 not out. The 22-year-old ended up as the highest scorer in the series with 196 runs in three matches at an average of 98 with a hundred and a half-century.

Meanwhile, Mithali Raj became the first female to feature in 200 ODIs.

In today’s match, Mithali managed to add just 9 runs to the team while Deepti Sharma top-scored with 52 off 90 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur was the next-best scorer with 24 runs.

For New Zealand, Anna Peterson starred with the ball as she took 4 wickets for 28 runs while Lea Tahuhu bagged 3 wickets for 26 runs.

Chasing a modest target of 150, New Zealand rode on half-centuries from Suzie Bates (57) and captain Amy Satterthwaite (61 not out) to win the match in the 30th over.

The two teams will now play a series of three T20 internationals on February 6, 8 and 10 in Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton, respectively.
