Adelaide: Cheteshwar Pujara scored his 16th Test hundred and reached 5000 test runs in the opening Test against Australia in Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
Pujara scored a gritty 123 and helped his team to achieve 250 runs against the Australians.
The man, who has often been vilified for his slow strike rate, has given remarkable innings at the time when Rahul Vijay, Kohli and Rahane flopped.
In their first home Test, the host Australia took four wickets before the lunch. Nathan Lyon, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc all grabbed two wickets each as the visitors fought their way to 250/9 at stumps on day one.
Pujara was even dropped but he came back strong and established himself as a regular No.3 for India.
He was dropped for the first Test in England after a poor run in South Africa and regained his place after one game.
