IMD predicts heavy rainfall during next 72 hours, issues alert


Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the Indian Meteorological Department today predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha during next 72 hours.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over north coastal Odisha and neighbourhood, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal Coast, a release read.

Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours, following which rain/ thundershowers is very likely to occur at most places over many districts of Odisha during next 72 hours, it added.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rain fall likely to occur over Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Sonepur and Sambalpur districts during next 72 hours, it stressed.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining west central Bay of Bengal during next 72 hours.
