Cuttack: In another major development in actress Nikita’s death, Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh today informed that the deceased’s husband Lipan Sahu was found responsible.
In a statement to the mediapersons, Singh said, “Circumstantial evidence shows that Lipan is guilty of her murder.” The couple had an argument following which they went to the terrace. The verbal duel turned violent, and Nikita fell off the terrace following a scuffle between the two. While Lipan was already arrested, he will soon be forwarded to court, added the DCP.
Though Lipan shrugged off the allegation of forcefully pushing Nikita from the roof top, he confessed about the scuffle. Circumstantial evidence and other eyewitnesses also confirmed the fight between the couple.
“Nikita’s mother-in-law and father-in-law are also being interrogated,” DCP Akhilesvar Singh said and added that a case under the IPC sections of murder, conspiracy and domestic violence has been registered.
Nikita’s autopsy reports are being awaited which could further shed light on the actress’ death, added the Cuttack DCP.
Reportedly, the couple got married in 2016 and problems between them brewed after just four months of marriage. Regular disputes erupted between Nikita and her mother-in-law regarding her work timings.
Following this, the couple resorted to staying separately. After the birth of their child, the Nikita started staying with the parents for proper care of the child. Lipan also used to visit his in-laws house in Mahanadi Vihar here.
On Sunday evening, Lipan was detained by police following the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, Sanatan Behera, with Chauliaganj police. He was later arrested on Monday.
The actress’ father, in his complaint, alleged that his son-in-law Lipan, his father Lingaraj and mother Kuntala, used to torture his daughter both mentally and physically.
Notably, Nikita sustained injuries on her head after falling off the rooftop of her parental house at Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack on Friday night. She later succumbed to her injuries at Ashwini hospital on Saturday.
