Heavy rains in Andaman: 800 tourists stranded at Havelock

Port Blair:  Due to heavy rains and storm at Havelock Island in Andaman and Nicobar almost 800 tourists are stranded here. On Wednesday the navy has launched a rescue operation and sent four naval ships to evacuate to the tourists.

After the information based on Andaman and Nicobar disaster management, a sudden evacuation mission was initiated.  As per information it is speculated that a “cyclonic storm” might strike Havelock, an island about 40 km from the state capital Port Blair.

Because of heavy rains and winds, the tourists are facing difficulty to reach the jetty to board the ships. However, it is expected that the evacuation will be complete by the evening, officials said.

A popular tourist destination known for its beaches, Havelock is the largest in the of islands that form the Ritchie’s Archipelago and belongs to the Andamans.
