Gurmeet Ram Rahim granted bail in castration case
Panchkula: In a major relief to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a CBI court in Panchkula on Friday granted him bail in a castration case, according to reports.
However, he will continue to remain in jail in connection with two rape cases. He was awarded 20 years jail by a CBI court in September last year for raping two sadhvis.
Earlier, a CBI special judicial magistrate had turned down Ram Rahim’s bail plea on 23 August. Later, he challenged the order and moved an application before special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh, who accepted his bail plea on Friday.
A local court on 3 August framed charges against Ram Rahim and two of his doctor disciples—MP Singh and Pankaj Garg—in a case of castration of sect followers inside the dera premises.
The court in Haryana’s Panchkula town charged him for cheating and voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
The CBI, in February 2017, had filed a chargesheet against the controversial sect chief and his two doctors in the castration case in the CBI court in Panchkula.
Ram Rahim has been assigned the job of growing vegetables in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail, where he is lodged since August 2017.
