Goods train derails in Koraput; services affected
Koraput: At least 15 wagons of a goods train derailed near Damanjodi railway station in Koraput district today, bringing the train services on Koraput-Rourkela route to a grinding halt.
Reportedly, the incident took place at around 4.20 pm when the goods train loaded with alumina powder was headed to its destination and derailed. However, no loss of life has been reported.
According to available information, senior railway officials from Visakhapatnam and Rayagada have rushed to the spot to begin inquiry.
ADRM of Waltair railway division KD Rao has left Visakhapatnam for Damanjodi. He will camp at site till complete restoration of line and resumption of traffic, said a railway official.
In the meanwhile, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has sent a relief train to the mishap spot from Koraput division.
Here is the list of trains cancelled, diverted and short terminated:
- (18107) KORAPUT – ROURKELA EXPRESS yet to start from Koraput. This train has been cancelled.
- (18005) SAMALESWARI EXPRESS towards Jagadalpur waiting at Laxmipur Road.
- (18448) HIRAKHAND EXPRESS at Koraput. This train will be run via diverted route of Koraput-Araku- Kottavalsa-Vizianagaram.
- (58301) Sambalpur – Koraput passenger short terminated at Rayagada.
