Gold worth Rs 20 lakh seized from passenger at city airport


Bhubaneswar: Acting on a tip-off, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here intercepted a passenger of Indian origin from Thane in Maharashtra who arrived from Bangkok via Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia flight AK-31 on night of Monday.

During search, four pieces of cuboid-shaped gold wrapped with black adhesives were recovered from his rectum.

The search led to the seizure of gold bars, collectively weighing 607.160 grams and valued at Rs 20 lakh. The identity of the person was yet to be ascertained. Further investigation was in progress.
