Ganga-Kaveri Express passengers looted at gunpoint
Lucknow: A group of armed dacoits looted passengers onboard Ganga-Kaveri Express near Panhai railway station in Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours of Monday.
According to sources, the train that departed from Manikpur station was heading to Allahabad when around 12 dacoits armed with weapons forcibly entered into two sleeper coaches after intercepting the train near Patna in Bihar at around 1 am.
The dacoits looted money and jewellery from the passengers. About a dozen passengers were injured as the looters beaten up them for resisting the loot.
Nearly one hour after the incident, a passenger of the train alerted the police dialing 100. Acting swiftly, Chitrakoot district magistrate, Deputy Inspector General and other senior officials reached the spot.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a cash prize of Rs 5.5 lakh for nabbing the culprits. It is suspected that the loot was the handiwork of a gang involved in coal theft.
