Paris: Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered to semi-final after they defeated senior compatriots Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy 21-17, 21-11, in just 31 minutes of the French Open in Paris.
India’s singles campaign in French Open came to a screeching halt as the country’s top three shuttlers- Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu crashed out of the tournament.
The young duo will now face World No.1 and Denmark Open winners Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia in the semi-final clash.
Satwik-Chirag had met Gideon-Sukamuljo twice this year in the Asian Games 2018 for Team event and Indonesia Open 2018 early in the year.
While Satwik-Chirag lost in straight games in Indonesia, they managed to take the world No.1 pair to three games in the Asian Games before losing out in a close encounter in 48 minutes.
Earlier in the year, Satwik and Chirag also won a historic silver medal in men’s doubles at the Commonwealth Games.
