New Delhi: Deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has called Aam Aadmi Party’s proposal for free ride on Metro a ‘revolutionary step to empower women’.

Sisodia’s response came on Friday after former Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chairman E Sreedharan wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him not to give his consent to the Aam Aadmi Party government’s proposal of free rides for women in the Metro.

Sisodia said he was surprised and pained by Sreedharan’s viewpoint. He said: “The Delhi government will buy around a million coupons in bulk from the DMRC on a daily basis. Why should anyone have any objection to that?”.

Sisodia  has sought blessings from the ‘Metro Man’ and urged him to reconsider his stand as it is a progressive step.

The deputy chief minister said the intention behind the Delhi government’s decision is to ensure that women are safer.
