Bhubaneswar: A Special Squad along with Balianta police nabbed four operatives of a hardcore criminal gang from Bhubaneswar on Thursday night.
The arrested persons were identified as Subhransu Parida (23), Manas Kumar Chanda (25), Tulu Behera (28), and Dhirendra Jena (28). They are accused of committing dacoity of Rs 66,419 cash from Nuasahi, the police said today.
According to reports, police has seized Rs 13,000 in cash, gold ornaments weighing 45 grams, four motorcycles and five mobile phones along with lethal weapons from their possession.
When asked, the police said that the gang has gained notoriety for committing many such robberies and snatchings reported in Laxmisagar, Khandagiri and Capital police limits in Bhubaneswar.
A case (33/19) under Sections 395 of the IPC was registered and the arrested persons were produced before the court, which rejected their bail plea and sent them to Jharpada Special Jail here under jusdical custody, the police added.
Further investigations and interrogations of the arrested history-sheeters are underway while efforts are on to zero in on the other members of the gang and recover the rest of looted money, the police said, and added that a circular has been in this regard.
