Four Maoists held in Malkangiri, explosive materials seized
Malkangiri: Chitrakonda police arrested four Maoists including three woman cadres near Jantri village in Malkangiri district and seized explosive materials from their possession.
Among the arrested, one was minor. Two carriage boxes containing nails, class pieces, urea fertilizer, two electronic detonators, three packets of gelatin stick paste used as high explosives and some electric wire were seized from them.
The police did not reveal the details of the arrested persons and are trying to conduct an identification parade to find out whether they were involved in other cases.
According to sources, a joint operation was launched by SOG of Odisha Police and Greyhounds of Andhra Police in Jantri gram panchayat of Swabhiman Anchal. On October 12, the security forces noticed the four accused running towards the nearby forest with some suspicious articles and caught them.
The police team searched them and recovered the explosive articles. During the interrogation, they admitted that they are working for banned CPI (Maoist) organisation.
They also admitted that they were planning to use the explosive materials to trigger blast and kill police personnel during their operations in the area.
After the arrest of the four accused, combing operation in Swabhiman Anchal has been intensified further, the police said.
The police said the accused persons and seized articles will be produced before the court of district judge cum special judge of Malkangiri. As per the ossification test, one accused was found to be minor. The minor accused will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
