Four critical in jumbo and bear attack in separate incidents
Mayurbhanj/Angul: At least four persons were critically injured after being attacked by wild elephant and bear in separate incidents in Mayurbhanj and Angul districts on Thursday.
According to sources, five persons had gone to a forest near Koilipala village under Maludiha police limits in Mayurbhanj district to collect mushrooms this morning. They were busy collecting mushrooms when a wild bear attacked them.
While two of them were critically injured in the attack. three others managed to escape from the clutches of the wild bear and reached the village. Locals admitted the injured persons to Thakurmunda community health centre.
In another incident, an elderly man sustained injuries after being trampled by a wild elephant in the farmland under Bantala police limits in Angul district.
The injured person has been identified as Bhimsem Pradhan of Gadataras village.
According to sources, Bhimsem had gone to his farmland this morning and was busy in work when a jumbo trampled him and fractured his one leg with grievous injuries in his body.
On being informed, Bantala forest division personnel reached the spot, rescued Pradhan and sent him to DHH for treatment, sources added.
