New Delhi: An alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was like ‘ drinking poison’, said former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday adding that she ‘suffered’ during the two-year-two-month alliance.
We had a good experience of the alliance during Vajpayee ji reign following which Mufti Sahab agreed to join hands with BJP again. But this time, it was a difficult decision, the former Chief Minister said.
Forming an alliance with BJP was like drinking poison. I suffered during the 2 years 2 months of the alliance, she added.
Notably, PDP became the largest party with 28 seats in the state in 2014, BJP won 25 seats followed by the then ruling National Conference and Indian National Congress.
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had become the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after PDP and BJP joined hands to form a government. Mehbooba Mufti became the Chief Minister after her father’s death in January 2016.
In June this year, the BJP ended its alliance with the PDP, ending Mufti’s Chief Ministership and resulting in the imposition of governor’s rule in the state.
