New Delhi: Former India pacer Amit Bhandari, sustained critical injuries after being assaulted by unidentified men at the St Stephen’s ground in New Delhi on Monday.
According to sources, Bhandari, chairman of the DDCA senior selection committee, along with other selectors and senior team coach Mithun Manhas was at St Stephen’s ground for the under-23 team’s trials.
After which they went for a lunch break. In the meantime, a group of 15 men armed with hockey sticks, rods and cycle chains went to Bhandari and entered into a heated argument over some issue. The situation took an ugly turn when the armed men attacked him and fled the spot.
On spotting Bhandari, the boy on trials and other selectors rescued him and rushed to Sant Paramanand hospital at Civic Lines.
