New Delhi: Former Odisha-cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi formally joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) during an event held in Delhi on Tuesday.
Sarangi was inducted into the party at the residence of BJP’s national president Amit Shah in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha BJP unit president Basant Panda and other senior leaders of the party.
The former bureaucrat is expected to return to Bhubaneswar tomorrow.
At the event, Sarangi informed the media, “I voluntarily left the service and chose to be a part of politics, especially BJP, as politics gives a bigger canvas and platform to serve the society.”
Sarangi is a 1994-batch Odisha-cadre IAS officer who was also the joint secretary of MGNREGA, under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Sarangi had also been posted as the director, Panchayati Raj; secretary, School and Mass Education; secretary, Higher Education; commissioner, Consolidation and secretary, Textiles and Handloom.
