Formalin traces found in fish collected from Sambalpur


Sambalpur: Traces of formalin, a cancer-causing toxic chemical, was found during examination of fish samples collected from Sambalpur today.

According to reports, traces of formalin were detected in two fishes collected from Kuluthakani here during raids at several fish markets in Ainthapali, Budharaja and Givindatala by officials of Fisheries Department and Sambalpur Municipal Corporation.

The fishes will be sent to Bhubaneswar for further examination, an official added.

Notably, the Odisha government has ordered for laboratory testing of fish samples after Assam government recently imposed a ban on fish imports from Andhra Pradesh following reports of formalin presence in the fish stocks.
