Malkangiri: Five hardcore Maoists including two women cadres were killed in an encounter with police forces in Paplur of Chitrakonda of Malkangiri district in the wee hours of Monday.
According to sources, based on credible information about presence of armed CPI (Maoist) group, anti-Maoist operation was launched on Sunday evening in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada Reserve Forest) area under Kalimela police station by the District and State Operations Wing by mobilising two units of Special Operations Group.
During the operation, there was an exchange of fire between the armed CPI (Maoist) cadres and the Security Forces in Poplur – Kurmanur forest (Bejangiwada RF) in the wee hours of Monday. Five hardcore CPI (Maoist) cadres including three males and two female cadres were neutralized in the operation.
Maoist leader Randev managed to escape. He is the Divisional Committee Member (DCM) in Kalimela Dalam. Two SLR rifles, one INSAS rifle, one 303 rifle, one grenade and other articles have been recovered from the spot.
“The identification of the cadres, who were killed in this encounter, is under process. Details will be intimated on receipt of further information,” director general of police (DGP) RP Sharma said at a press conference.
“As Malkangiri district in general and Kalimela police station area in particular is considered to be one of the strongholds of CPI (Maoist), this operation is considered to be a spectacular achievement by the District and Operations Wing of the State Police, which will go a long way in containing the CPI (Maoist) activities in Kalimela police station area of Malkangiri district,” Sharma added.
