Five Lakh Hectares of agricultural land remains uncultivated


Bhubaneswar: Odisha Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy in the State Assembly revealed, around 5, 06,000 hectares of Agricultural land are lying uncultivated throughout the state.

He admitted, in the year 2016-17 thousand hectares of agricultural land in different districts remained uncultivated during khariff crop season due to irregular precipitation and inadequate irrigation facility.

According to the statistics of some districts (the figures in hectares), in Angul- 24, 000, Balasore- 52, 000, Bargarh- 25, 000, Bhadrak- 13, 000, Bolangir- 34,000, Boudh- 5,000, Cuttack- 34,000, Dhenkanal- 33,000, Jagatsingpur- 16,000, Jajpur- 13,000, Jharsuguda- 13,000, Keonjhar- 25,000, Mayurbhanj- 45,000 and Puri- 50,000 hectares of agricultural land are lying like grassland whereas the people of the state every year face agricultural product scarcity.
