Fire station officer caught taking Rs 5,000 bribe
Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday caught the station officer of Lakhanpur Fire Station in Jharsuguda district for accepting Rs 5,000 bribe for issuing a report on a fire incident.
Accused Chaitanya Sethi was caught red-handed by the vigilance officials of Sambalpur division while accepting the bribe from Chandramani Jaipuria of Bhagamunda in Lakhanpur police limits.
According to sources, the complainant has purchased a Mahindra Supra Transport Vehicle on private finance which accidentally caught fire on October 30. Later, the complainant had applied to the station officer to get a report on this accidental fire in order to claim insurance. However, the accused had demanded Rs 5,000 to issue the report.
Later, Jaipuria lodged a complaint with Sambalpur Vigilance police station. Today the complainant reached Lakhanpur Fire Station at around 10 am where the accused accepted the bribe from him. The bribe money has been recovered.
The accused hails from Khuntabati village under Tumesinga police limits in Dhenkanal district. His inspection room on the fire station premises is under search.
The detection process is going on and the accused will be arrested and forwarded to the court of special judge, the vigilance officials said.
