4 killed in Mumbai’s Crystal Tower fire


Mumbai: At least four persons were killed after a massive fire broke out on the 12th floor of Crystal Tower residential apartments near Hindmata Cinema at Parel in Mumbai on Wednesday morning.

20 fire fighting engines were engaged to douse the fire that took efforts of over an hour to capture the blaze. Fire personnel said it was a level-3 fire.

Rescued persons were rushed to KEM Hospital where four died while undergoing treatment while 16 patients are under medical supervision.

“Total 20 victims were brought to the hospital. Four are dead, one of them a woman. Other 16 patients, six of them women, are stable,” informed the hospital administration.

Fire personnel rescued the people trapped on the top floor of the building with the help of crane.

The fire brigade control room received a message about the blaze at 8.32 am and rushed to the spot. By then residents were trapped on the building’s staircases following disseminating smoke from the raging fire, an official said.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.
