Farmers stage road blockades in Cuttack over delay in paddy procurement
Cuttack: Vehicular movement between Cuttack and Narasinghpur was disrupted today as scores of farmers staged road blockades protesting the delay in paddy procurement in mandis.
The irate farmers blocked the roads at Kokalaba Chhak in Narsinghpur block by spilling paddy on the road.
Commuters faced a harrowing time as the movement of vehicular traffic was paralysed by the protest. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the roads.
The agitators alleged, “While there is a provision of shifting the paddy to the mandis once in a week, millers do not procure their crop for over two weeks.” The delay and non-procurement of paddy, has triggered resentment among the farmers for the past few days.
Earlier, the farmers had also staged a demonstration over the issue in different districts across the state.
