Fake tobacco unit busted in Bhadrak
Bhadrak: A fake tobacco manufacturing unit has been busted at Prachinagar under Bhadrak Rural police limits in the district on Saturday night. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a rented house at Prachinagar last night and made the seizure.
Reportedly, the cops seized spurious tobacco of worth lakhs, various equipment and labels of different brands from the spot. According to police, this is the sixth such illegal unit seized in the district in two months.
“Though the main accused has been identified, he along with other workers managed to flee before the raid. A probe into this matter is underway and efforts are on to arrest the accused,” said the police.
Notably, in August around five fake tobacco manufacturing units were busted in Bhadrak. On August 11, a team of Puruna Bazar police station raided two units at Chandan Nagar and Sarkar Nagar and seized large quantities of raw materials used to prepare spurious tobacco.
Police suspect that a huge racket is operating behind the manufacturing of spurious products. However, the mastermind still remains elusive and continue to operate right under the nose of the police.
