Fake tantrik arrested
Bhubaneswar: A 21- year old fake ‘tantrik’ was arrested here by the Commissionerate police on Monday after a city based hotelier lodged complaint against him. The ‘tantrik’ allegedly cheated him of gold ornaments and valuables worth lakhs. The accused has been identified as Chittaranjan Pradhan alias Soumyaranjan of Athamalik area under Angul district.
As per sources, on December 4, Soumyaranjan dressed as a transgender entered into a hotel ‘Hotel By The Way’ in Patia. Initially, after reaching the hotel, he met the owner of the hotel Samarendra Parija and claimed himself to be Mataji Dibya from Kamakshya Shakti Peetha in Assam Temple. He said that the hotel had some vaastu related problem for which he suggested to perform a puja which would bring good fortune for him.
Falling into his trap, Parija arranged for the puja to be conducted on the following day and Soumyaranjan was made to stay at room number 307 of the hotel with deluxe room facilities. The accused had the condition that some gold ornaments were to be kept in Parija’s kerchief and to be placed before the deity while the offerings were to be made. Parija and his wife sat in the puja with offerings of three gold chains and two lockets. He asked Parija and his wife to conduct two rounds of puja around their house by chanting the mantra.
Meanwhile, Soumyaranjan managed to take away the gold ornaments from the knotted kerchief. After completing puja on Monday, Soumyaranjan proclaimed that if the kerchief was opened before three days, the effect of the puja will be nullified. The accused was also given Rs 6000 as donation and dropped at Bata Bhuasuni Temple in Janla on the outskirts of the capital city. Later with repeated telephone calls, Parija was again forced to deposit an amount of Rs 6000 in his account.
But subsequently, suspecting the activities of Soumyaranjan, Parija opened the knotted kerchief and found that he was cheated.
Immediately, Parija filed a case in the Infocity police station against the accused on December 10. However, through mobile phone tracking, the accused was arrested from Athamalik and forwarded to SDJM court in Bhubaneswar.
