Fake notes worth Rs 3.5L seized, two arrested in Subarnapur


Subarnapur: In a major setback to the fake currency racket, Subarnapur police has arrested two youths with seizure of counterfeit notes worth Rs 3.5 lakh from their possession yesterday late night.

Acting on tip off regarding the consignment of fake notes between Boudh and Subarnapur, a special team of police set a trap near Kunja Chhak. The accused duo Sachidananda Bastia and Sailendra Pradhan of Khatakhatia village in Boudh district were intercepted by the police in the midway.

A motorcycle, color printer and other materials used for printing fake notes were also seized from the accused. Sources said Rs 2 lakh seized was in 2000 denomination and Rs 1.5 lakh in 500.

Speaking regarding the incident in a press meet, Subarnapur SP said a case has been registered against the accused under section 489 (ABC) 39 of IPC and the probe into the matter is underway.
