Facebook changes ad policy ahead of 2019 polls

New Delhi: The social media site, Facebook, has announced fresh steps to increase ad transparency ahead of  2019 Lok Sabha elections in India.

The social media site is facing intense scrutiny over the misuse of its platform globally during elections.

It has made mandatory if  anyone  wants to run an ad in India related to politics, he will need to first confirm identity and location. It has also said more details about the ad will also be sought.

The facebook authorities said they are making big changes to the way the ads were managed by Facebook and Instagram.

The changes have already made it in the US, Brazil and the UK. Now  it is the turn of India before the general elections,  said Sarah Clark Schiff, Product Manager at Facebook.

Facebook said the advertisers in India will have to comply to new rules and regulations  starting from Friday.

The social media giant has advised the advertisers in India to download the latest Facebook app and visit Settings to get started.
