Bhubaneswar: Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Friday extended support to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s initiative of 33% reservation for women in parliament and state legislatures.
Gowda, the National President of the Janata Dal (Secular), today spoke to the CM over telephone and announced his full support to the women’s reservation bill.
Worth mentioning, the initiative of Odisha CM for the women empowerment is garnering more supports day-by-day.
A day earlier, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar extended support to Patnaik’s initiative of 33% reservation for women.
In a letter, the NCP chief congratulated the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo for taking up the remarkable initiative of women empowerment in the country.
In December, the Odisha CM had written to Prime Minister demanding necessary steps for passing the Bill for reservation of one-third of seats in Parliament and State Legislatures for women.
In order to garner support from all the national and regional level parties, the ruling BJD had assigned the party leaders to meet the other parties personally and hold talks in this regard.
