Ex-OAS officer sentenced to two years RI in 20-year-old DA case
Bhubaneswar: A special vigilance court in Bhubaneswar today convicted retired OAS officer and former joint secretary to transport department, Odisha, Prafulla Kumar Routray, in connection with a disproportionate asset case.
The court found Routray guilty under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 for possession of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the convict failing which he will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for further period of six months.
According to case details, the vigilance sleuths on reliable information regarding possession of disproportionate assets had raided Routray’s residential house along with the houses of his relatives on January 6, 1998 and on January 8, 1998.
During investigation, as prima facie evidence was well made out, charge sheet was submitted against Routray, for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 10.35 lakh. AF Khan, ex-inspector of police, vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division had investigated the case.
