EOW nabs ‘fake teacher’ in bank fraud case
Kendrapara: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of State Crime Branch today arrested a woman on charges of impersonating as a teacher and duping lakhs of rupees from Bilahat branch of Odisha Gramya Bank by producing duplicate certificates.
The woman has been identified as Annapurna Das of Patisahi of Garadpur gram panchayat under Patkura police limits.
According to the complaint lodged by bank authorities, Das allegedly produced fake salary certificates of a teacher at Bilahaat Gramya Bank and took over Rs 1 lakh as loan amount in 2013. However, when Das failed to repay the loan, the bank officials initiated a probe and found out that the certificates produced by Das were forged.
Acting on the complaint, the Crime Branch team launched a probe and apprehended Das from her house today.
While the accused woman is in police custody, she will soon be forwarded to court, sources in the police further informed.
