EOW arrests woman for loan fraud in Odisha capital


Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch police today arrested a woman on charges of cheating a person and fraudulently availing loans from two financial institutions.

The accused has been identified as Sanghamitra Gouda, wife of Deepak Kumar Gouda, Proprietor of Jyoti Enterprises.

The arrest has been made following an order of the Orissa High Court.

According to EOW, Sanghamitra and her husband had availed a Cash Credit (CC) loan of Rs 250 lakh from IDBI bank, which later became NPA and the bank auctioned the property after issuing notices to the couple.

However, the couple mortgaged the same property with a private financial company and availed a loan of Rs 84.5 lakhs.

Subsequently, Deepak sold the alleged property the next month to Vinod Bihari Majhi and others.  While Deepak was arrested before, the EOW arrested Sanghamitra today.

The EOW has booked the accused under section 467, 468, 471, 420, 120(b) of IPC.
