Engineering girl hospitalised after ragging in college hostel

Keonjhar: A girl student of Government College of Engineering in Keonjhar district was on Thursday admitted to hospital after she was allegedly ragged by some senior students in the college hostel.

According to sources, a group of third-year girl inmates of Maa Tarini Hall of Residency of the college located at Jamunalia complained to the hostel superintendent about power cut for a long time on Wednesday night.

Later, some fourth year girl students of the hotel abused the third year girls over the issue and ragged them. They also barred them from having their dinner.

Although the hostel warden was present there, she did not inform the matter to the hostel superintendent. Later, the frightened girls informed the matter to hostel superintendent Soumya Ranjan Mallick over the phone. But he reportedly said that he would look into the matter the next morning.

Following the ragging, one of the girls, Tapaswini Sahu, fell unconscious. She was rushed to the district headquarters hospital at around 11 pm. While she was undergoing treatment at the hospital, other girl students submitted a written complaint to college Principal Trilochan Sahu in this regard.
