Encounter underway in Kulgam, 4 militants trapped

Jammu: Encounter has broken out in Kulgam on Sunday between holed up militants and security forces in Kellem village of Kulgam district in South Kashmir.

According to reports security forces cordoned the village during the night after getting a tip-off about the presence of militants.

As the military was zeroing in on the group the ultras fired on the forces resulting in encounter, police sources said.

Nearly four militants are believed to be trapped at the time of filing the story.

The  encounter is underway between the security forces and militants. The forces had cordoned the Kellam Devsar area in Kulgam last night following information about the presence of ultras in the area.

A week earlier a self-styled district commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit was killed in a brief encounter in Pulwama.

A police spokesman said the encounter broke out when a joint patrolling party of army and police was fired upon by ultras at Chakoora area of Pulwama district.
