New York: American chat-show host Ellen DeGeneres acknowledged Indian sportswoman Dutee Chand’s courage for coming out of the closet and opening about her homosexuality recently.
DeGeneres took to her official social media handles and praised Chand for embracing her sexuality openly.
She’s the 100m record holder and the first openly gay sportsperson in India. I guess she knows a thing or two about being first. I’m so proud of her. https://t.co/auoyWY8yvk

Olympian Dutee Chand made headlines when she announced that she is in a same-sex relationship, making her the first Indian sportsperson to do so.
The sprinter recently revealed she’s in a same-sex relationship with her “soulmate” who is a girl from her hometown of Chaka Gopalpur in Odisha.
Chand, a 100m record holder and winner of two Asian Games silver medals, said the September 2018 Supreme Court verdict that decriminalised same-sex relationships between consenting adults provided the impetus for them to arrive at a decision of spending their lives with each other.
DeGeneres herself revealed that she is homosexual, over two decades ago on national TV. She uses her voice for several important reasons and she has been one of the most prominent supporters of the LGBTQ community and their rights.
