Bhawanipatna: A decomposed carcass of an elephant was recovered from Tunduri forest range in Kalahandi district, officials informed today.

According to sources in the forest department, the pachyderm probably died a couple of days earlier. However, as the forest was not accessed by locals, the carcass was not spotted immediately.

Later, the highly decomposed carcass was recovered by forest department personnel.

While the forest department officials have sent the carcass for post mortem, it was not known if the jumbo died naturally or was killed by poachers. The exact reason behind the elephant’s death will be known after the autopsy, sources added.
