Eight rebels go missing after boat capsizes in Chitrakonda


Malkangiri: Eight Maoists went missing after their boat capsized due to heavy flow of water at Luhagrama ghat under Dhulikut panchayat in Malkangiri’s Chitrakonda on Sunday, sources said.

Reportedly, the incident occurred when the rebels were headed to Sarakabandu-Ralegada village through the ghat.

The boat, which they had boarded capsized after it lost balance due to strong currents, said some eyewitnesses.

Later, the police and BSF launched a search operation through speed boat after the family members of the missing outlaws, learnt about the incident.

The search operation is still underway, till the last report came in.

Notably, security measures have been tightened in the area after the inauguration of Gurupriya Bridge.

It is learnt that, Maoist leaders Sudhir and Rabana are leading the rebels in Karukonda area and tribal dominated areas near Andhra-Odisha border.
